2007 Walk to D'Feet ALS

Sunday, October 7, 2007

The 2007 Walk to D'Feet ALS was this Saturday and thanks to the donations of many friends, coworkers, and family members The Dream Team raised $15,625. A special thank you to Cypress Semiconductor who contributed $5,000. The morning of the walk was one of the coldest I can remember, then the rain started! Once we started walking we warmed up though and the rain stopped. As always the walk was a spirited and somber event with many teams walking in memory of the lost loved ones. There were also men and women with ALS at the walk, their courage and perseverance can be an inspiration to each of us.

Meet the Amazing SSH

Monday, September 3, 2007

If you access remote computers via a command line interface meet the amazing ssh (Secure SHell). At the most basic level ssh is the modern day equivalent of telnet, but, it is also much more. Even if you don't need the advanced features of ssh you should be using it rather than telnet because ssh will encrypt your password before sending it over the Internet, telnet does not. You read right, telnet sends your password in clear text across the network. But, that isn't what got me to writing this evening, the really cool thing about ssh is that you can use it to forward ports over a secure connection. For example, say your on a network that doesn't allow sending mail to port 25, but, you can ... [There is more. Click on the title above.]

One Week With The iPhone

Saturday, July 7, 2007

I ran into a problem with the wifi while I was waiting in line for my iPhone and didn't post any more. Of course after I got my iPhone I spent my time messing with the phone rather than posting here. This post is special however because I'm writing it on the iPhone! As I have mentioned before I use the TYPO3 content management system for PIAP, the back end of TYPO3 is a fairly complex web page that has to be loaded by the iPhone in order for me to write this post. Unfortunatly the one thing that does not work is the rich text editor, therefore, I have to write this in plain text. The other features of the phone work very well. There are of course bugs in the phone, but, I presume they will ... [There is more. Click on the title above.]

Let the Waiting Begin

Friday, June 29, 2007

It isn't often that I buy the first generation of a product. I'm the cautions type wanting to make sure that what I buy will meet my needs and last for a long time. Yet, it is 8:30 AM and I'm in line for a product that doesn't go on sale until 6:00 PM. What has come over me? The iPhone!

Even at this hour I'm not the first in line, I'm actually 10th! As the day goes on I'll post updates if anything interesting happens. Unfortunately the Alderwood mall will not allow any chairs, so, I'm stuck sitting on the ground. Thankfully though the Apple Store's free WiFi is on and I'm able to get on the net.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Who knows if this little girl has been coached, but, the video is still hilarious.  This little girl seems to be talking to her mother about a character she saw on a DVD.

How to Wear a Sari

This April I took my third trip to India for work. Just like my previous trips I asked my family if they wanted me to bring anything back for them, this time I got a surprising answer from my mother when she said, can you get me a Sari. I was a bit hesitant to go shopping for a Sari because I couldn't imagine where my mother would have an opportunity to wear the Sari. But, something came over me during my four weeks in India and I asked a coworker of mine, Lisah, to help me find a Sari for my mother. Another coworker of mine, Satish, also came along. Together we found what turned ... [There is more. Click on the title above.]
